We all know about the successful Paris-Saint-Germain collaboration with the famous basketball brand Jordan. PSG and Jordan released two shirts in the 2020/2021 season: the third and fourth shirt. In this post, we are going to take a closer look at the PSG x Jordan 2020/2021 third shirt customized with Mbappé as well as the Champions League patches..
If we take a look at the design, the fancy design definitely stands out. PSG and Jordan opted for an elegant and fashionable look when it comes to this third shirt. This is reflected in the bordeaux-red colored base of the shirt. The part around the shoulders has a very clean white color, which matches nicely with the all black collar of the shirt. The lower part of the sleeves are black too. The details that give this shirt a fancy look are the golden Jordan logo and PSG team crest. The Accor Live Limitless sponsor has the exact same golden color as the logos.
The PSG x Jordan 2020/2021 third shirt was both used in the French Ligue 1 and the Champions League. The shirt in this post is the Champions League version. This is quite obvious because of the two prominent patches. We got the Champions League star ball on the right sleeve, and the Respect patch on the left sleeve. The Ligue 1 version of this shirt would have a Ligue 1 patch on the right sleeve and the golden QNB sleeve sponsor on the left sleeve instead.
It goes without saying that the name set on this PSG x Jordan 2020/2021 third shirt is different from the Ligue 1 version. This shirt has the official PSG name set of Kylian Mbappé with his famous number 7. The dimensions of this name set are bigger than those of the Ligue 1 name set, because the UEFA has special rules for players’ names and numbers during European Competitions. The Mbappé name set has a bold white design. The number 7 has a bordeaux-red colored stripe in the middle. Also, we got the PSG team logo at the bottom of the number.
As you could read in one of my previous posts, Nike produces fan’s version and player version shirts. The player version shirts come in two different types: the commercially available Vaporknit shirt and the Vaporknit shirt with heat pressed wash label (only available to players). This is a Vaporknit shirt that has a normal (paper) wash label, which was for sale in official licensed sports shops during the 2020/2021 season.
The Nike Vaporknit shirts are more expensive than the fan’s version shirts. In general, the price difference is about 50 Dollars or Euros. The material of Vaporknit shirts is way smoother and more comfortable than ‘normal’ shirts. About 10 to 15 years ago, player version shirts weren’t commercially available. The trend of producing and buying player version shirts has been growing the last years. There are more and more fans and football shirt collectors who prefer to buy the more expensive Nike Vaporknit shirts for example. Player version shirts look and feel better in their opinion. Also, it’s basically the same shirt the players wear, aside from a few minor differences. This makes Vaporknit shirts ideal for collectors, because it’s close to the real deal (the shirts the players wear).
Final thoughts and my opinion
If you read one of my previous posts, you already know I am a fan of PSG x Jordan shirts in general. This third shirt has a unique and elegant look because of the combination of colors. PSG and Jordan did a good job on using the bordeaux red base, in combination with the golden details (the logos and sponsor) on this shirt. The white part near the shoulders is a good complement to the other colors on this kit, because it gives the shirt a more neutral look in general. In addition to this, the bold design of the name set perfectly suits this shirt. The white number 7 nicely stands out on the bordeaux red base of the shirt.
The Vaporknit version of this version of this shirt has become quite rare since the end of the 2020/2021 season. More and more football fans and shirt collectors start collecting Vaporknit shirts, because they have become more available to the public in the last years. This kind of shirts are definitely worth the money if you ask me. The material feels amazing, and the heat-pressed patches look way better than embroidered ones. Considering the beauty of the Mbappé name set in Champions League style and the Champions League patches, this shirt is an absolute banger. Mbappé is definitely one of the best players in the world right now. Also, he showed his class the 2020/2021 season by scoring some bangers in the Champions League. My rating: 8.5/10.
